“Google Slap Demystified: The Return of Easy Adwords Money”
by: Amish
Look, we just developed this silly little tool for ourselves… and now we can hardly keep it from spreading on the Internet! (In fact, we had to add a password protection system to keep it halfway contained among our beta test users!)
Remember the days of quick and easy Google cash? Good times. Oh how I miss them.
You used to be able to put up a halfway-decent Adwords ad, link it directly to your affiliate landing page, et voila, you’d make automatic sales 24/7 and turn a profit! If you were able to copy and paste links from ClickBank, you were in business!
But then, as early as 2006, things turned horribly wrong… for us, and 80% of all other Google advertisers! We, and thousands like us, woke up to $1, $5, or $10 minimum bids for our campaigns!
That was Google’s passive-aggressive way of saying, “Pal, with those lame ads, pointing to those lame landing pages, we don’t want your business.”
But what if there was a way to turn back the time, and jump right back into the Google cash game, as if nothing had happened? What if there was a surefire way to not get slapped again ever? What if you could go ahead and put up Adwords campaign after Adwords campaign… while being absolutely sure that your campaigns will turn a profit right out of the gate?
Yes, it can be pre-2006 all over again! We know. We’re living in that reality every day.
Here;s what happened: This spring, our absolutely evil “minister of propaganda” Jörg came up with this crazy idea… (and frankly, I wasn’t even that much into it at first)…
Why not develop a tool for Adwords Advertisers and Search Engine Optimizers that determines the Google Quality Score (QS) of a landing page upfront…
What if there was a way to put on magic goggles that let you see Google’s view of your PPC ad, your keywords, and your landing page??
If you had Google Goggles to put on before you start a new campaign, wouldn’t it give you superpowers in the pay-per-click game… powers that nobody else has, especially not your competitors?
You could take Google’s “slap factor” –the dreaded quality score– right back out of the equation like it’s early 2006 again! (And make cash just like anyone used to!)
As I said, at first I dismissed the idea. But it couldn’t get out of my head. I even started dreaming about it! (No joke!)
Well, our master genius coders Matt and Jeffery ran with the idea — unbeknownst to Larry and me, mind you! One day Matt just showed up at our new beachfront office in La Jolla and demo’d a tool that looked exactly like, well, Google Goggles!
For a first view on what it does and how to use it, check it out here (but there’s a lot more included than I had time to share tonight so stay tuned for updates at this blog!)
In the years prior, we spent something close to $5 million USD on our own, personal pay-per-click campaigns with Google. Ever notice how investing your own money on business gambits increases your intelligence? It makes you think before you spend. So it’s somewhat natural that Larry and I intuitively knew the Google Adwords Quality Score algorithm… inside out!
Knowing what works and what doesn’t in the Adwords game became our second nature. As I said, not because we’re hot shit… out of sheer necessity! It’s like of those things like “riding a bicicle” that you just get a “feel” for, after a while. A psychologist once told me this is called “intuitive competence” or something like that.
Yet, our close PPC friends, as well as thousands of users over at our flagship project www.HexaTrack.com needed access to the knowledge we had locked inside our head. (Sorry HexaTrack isn’t currently accepting new users, but you may enter into a waiting list.)
Since 2006, one Google Slap chased another. Just a couple of weeks ago, July 26, 2008 we had the last one. Our friends were bugging out. We had to find a way to make that “intuitive competence” in our brains available to them - fast!
So I set out and put my insider knowledge of the Adwords Quality Score Algorithm on paper. To our knowledge, it’s the first time that anyone has reverse-engineered and released Google’s secret QS formula.
(Again, not trying to brag here–I’m seriously wondering why nobody else has thought of divulging this information before? It could make the difference between making millions in PPC, and giving up, slapped and frustrated, like many of you have been writing me!)
Well, technically we haven’t released this secret tool yet. Only a handful of our close friends and customers have a beta test version of Google Goggles… and they are bound by ironclad non-disclosure agreements and a tight password-protection system.
Trust me, as an Adwords advertiser, you don’t want this tool to get into the wrong hands anyway! In fact, initially we had firm plans to sell Google Goggles as part of a $1,000+ package, to keep it inside our exclusive club of “heavy-hitter” Internt marketing friends (if you look closely, you can still spot the name of that $1,000+ package in the video above!)
We priced ir so high to keep this tool limited to real players in the market… people that quietly make millions online… whose names you do not know… guys and gals who do not puff themselves up as gurus, because that’s usually a distraction from their own money-making activities.
But if $1,000+ is out of your reach right now, don’t despair. In frantic meetings between all five of us, I think we found a way to help you out, even if you can’t spring that kind of money at the moment. After all, the whole point of Google Goggles is to test your Adwords campaigns before you spend a bunch on overpriced clicks.
So the Google Goggles story is just beginning… look out for the next installment of the tale tomorrow, or the day after, when I’ve caught up on some sleep. I think you’ll like the way this is going, and what we came up with to help you out…
Good nite…
~Amish

18|Aug|2008 2Thanks Guys!
Just building sites by just two of us. Key ideas like you give us helps. We make now just about $100 a month selling The Writer’s Interface. Our goal is to make money and reinvest in upgrading how we present ourselves as information givers.
The writing a novel info we have for people is the best, but the Internet Marketing keeps developing so fast that we have not caught up with it yet. We keep trying, building, rebuilding …
This is who we are at the moment …

18|Aug|2008 3Hi Amish,
can you define what you think consititutes a “page” as in 1 of the 5?
i.e.
How many words (500) ?
Do pictures help or count at all?
How should these pages be linked, anything special?
Presumably 1 of these pages is the business page, all on one, or does a seperate page for each biz page help or hinder? (guessing more seperate pages helps)
Thanks
Peter

18|Aug|2008 4This is going to be a great time for anyone willing to put just that bit of extra effort into their campaigns, and the Goggles look like making even that slam dunk easy. Yes, it means a bit more work on our pages but at least we’ll know for sure what we should be doing and where.
Great stuff - looking forward to what’s coming

18|Aug|2008 5Fantastic stuff! Finally, someone has developed a simple, easy-to-use tool to help beginners and advanced online marketers see into the future…with GoogleGoggles. This will help everyone build laser-focused, keyword-based quality sites right from the start. (Matt, great job using the latest Web 2.0 technologies; great user-interface.)

18|Aug|2008 18Very Interesting….in the sense that the Hexatrack guys are very knowledgeble [but, and i don't mean this to be over critical] they sometimes in their teaching techniques were lacking in the Hexatrack program…..i actually split the program because i felt it was over my head ‘without’ the detail instruction needed to succeed.
*********************Gr8888 great! work on what you guys have so far!!!!! the goggles are really cool looking, but im not sure if i will be able to take too much of the hyjinks vids in the background…..will there be a new vid each and every time a learning moment happens? Very cool stuff is my main point though. Dont over estimate the comment on the negative side, as that is only true observations and not slights at these guys…..hey who;s perfect, other than maybe Frank !?

20|Aug|2008 31Some questions that come to mind after reading your page:
1. Everyone has talking over past years of reverse engineering of Adwords. Only Cutts knows this right? (the hidden team with in the G) How can you do it? People would pays mucho bucks for this info.
2. How do overcome if Google changes again?
3. How would we know?
4.Have you reflected on your videos like Stompernet, and come back in a year or two and say that these technicques worked and we are smart dudes?
Lets here it!

20|Aug|2008 32Hi,
This is valuable info and google goggles looks like a great product.
In your report you say to get rid of the squeeze page.
I use a squeeze page that floats up over my site, The prospect can then just close it if they area not interested and still get to my content.
My squeeze page works 5 times better than having a sign in on the content page. At the moment my quality score is ‘great’ and I only pay 10c per click, but I don’t think google have eyeballed my site yet.
If you don’t have a squeeze page for your give away stuff then how do you get the opt in and sales rate good enough to justify the add spend?
How do you get profitable optins and sales without a squeeze page?

20|Aug|2008 33Hi,

20|Aug|2008 36Does our ad have to be live on google adwords for the software to evaluate it?
how much will the software sell for?
beth
21|Aug|2008 37I have the same question as rooyackers. If the landing page is all about content, how do you get the customers to optin and/or get them to your “money page” to justify the ad spend? In my experience the only way to do that is have the landing page be a sales page or optin page but obviously Google does not like that. So how do you do it?
Matt
21|Aug|2008 38Beth, one way to do it is to have a blog and lots of content behind the squeeze page. Have kind of discrete box at the bottom of the page that has links to things like your terms of service and things no one ever reads anyway. In there have a link to your xml sitemap so that when google spiders the page it picks up the sitemap. However most real people will never know there’s any way in except through an opt in.
Domonic Mongello
21|Aug|2008 39Hello Guy’s,
First off your personal creativity rocks, its fun, engaging, and most important for Real… A rare thing these days… thank you for that..
Matt in your response to Beth you said, that in essence as long as there is a xml-site map link to the site map on the splash/landing page, and content via a blog behind it the site would work with Google Adwords…
Does it effect anything if the blog being referenced in the site map is on a sub-domain on the same domain, or should the blog just be a folder?
FYI: I was a Diego, Crown Point dweller for more than 20 years and moved to Thailand a few years ago… Frank and your video’s really reminded me of home… again thx guys for stepping up, and I among I’m hundreds more out there will be pumped once we get our hands on your new software…

21|Aug|2008 46Good Job Guys -
Looks like you just might be on to something. Everyone needs to keep in mind that you are not creating a magic pill - to make this system work, you will have to create content, set up the pages in a “Google Friendly” way, and monitor your results. But the tool looks like it is going to be a big help in getting my site “google friendly” Keep up the good work and best of luck.

21|Aug|2008 47Hey guys -
It seems Google Goggles only looks at landing page variables, keywords, CTR and ad copy.
I am just curious how this product adds ALL of the quality score factors that Google has mentioned they take into account for quality score ranking such as account history, landing page speed, max cpc costs, campaign structure and overall campaign budget.
It seems like a cool product, but unless I am missing something there seems to be a few holes.
It isn’t much of a challenge to get an OK or Great quality score on brand new campaigns, but it’s the overall other factors that influence quality scores that is the issue for most of us.
Thanks for your time.

22|Aug|2008 56I get where you are coming from Dave but you have to admit these guys cover a good chunk. Actual use of this tool will also help out many with their future results, future account standing and budget can be increased. Other factors can be worked on later but this tool covers what most need to take heed of right here and now.
By using this tool, many will simply become more professional and there will be less garbage sites on the net and that’s all google is trying to achieve. It’s like clean up your act or we’ll force you out. As I see it google goggles will help many to simply clean up their act and it’s about time hehehe

25|Aug|2008 73Hi,
LOVED the videos, and am really interested in Goggles.
Question - if Google penalizes the domain if you send traffic to it through a poorly targeted campaign, then wouldn’t it be a sneaky strategy to run a couple really aweful campaigns for a competitor’s website and have Google run their CPC way up???
Thanks again,

25|Aug|2008 75so if i have a website such as an affiliate site, or a site im connected to and want to market it, but i have no control over what is displayed on the pages, such as with network marketing businesses that provide cookie cutter websites to reps. and lastly, is there an affiliate program for G.G. yet? if so please send or post the link.
